The US State Department has formally notified Congress of its plan to sell over $7 billion in weapons to Israel, including thousands of bombs and missiles. This announcement comes just days after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with President Donald Trump at the White House.
The proposed sale consists of two major packages. The first, valued at $6.75 billion, includes precision-guided munitions such as 166 small-diameter bombs, 2,800 500-pound bombs, and thousands of guidance kits and support equipment. The second deal, worth $660 million, involves 3,000 Hellfire missiles, with deliveries expected to begin in 2028.
This move follows Trump’s recent decision to lift the hold on 2,000-pound bomb shipments to Israel, a restriction previously imposed by the Biden administration due to concerns over civilian casualties in Gaza. Trump defended the decision, stating that the weapons were purchased and should be delivered.
The arms sale announcement comes as a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hamas remains in place, while tensions persist over Trump’s controversial proposal to relocate Palestinians from Gaza and repurpose the area for international development.
